FAQ
1. Are there prerequisites to taking an aerial class?
For first-timers, we ask that you try our Intro to Aerial Skills class. This class gives you an opportunity to try out our various apparatuses and see where your strength, flexibility and body awareness levels are. We have specific prerequisites for our Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced level classes, which you can find by going to Classes and selecting the apparatus you are interested in.
2. Is there an age or weight limit?
There is no weight limit, but we do require students be at least 6 years old. Anyone under 18 years of age must arrive to their first class with a parent or guardian to sign waivers/consent forms. We offer Intro to Aerial Skills for Kids, designed exclusively for students 6 – 10 and Intro to Aerial Skills for Youth, for students 11-14. We have had students as young as 10 join our regular aerial arts classes and welcome parents to chat with our teachers about those opportunities.
3. How do I advance from one level to the next?
You must meet the prerequisites in order to take a class. As you progress, you can move on in your own time or stay at a level where you feel comfortable. If you have any specific questions on how to build the necessary skills to progress, please ask your teacher.
4. What should I wear to class?
For most of our aerial and fitness classes, we recommend close-fitting workout clothes and bare feet. We like capri-length pants over leotards/unitards with a tee-shirt over. Do not wear clothes that are too loose! Please refrain from wearing jewelry or clothing with decorative elements that may snag (buttons, beads, etc). Anything metal or sharp has the potential to damage our equipment and cause the wearer injury, so please be sure to remove those items before class begins.
Pole dancing requires exposed skin to stick to the pole. Shorts, tank tops and sports bra work best. Acceptable footwear includes ballet shoes, athletic shoes or bare feet. Do not wear or apply lotions or oils before attending a pole class, as it will impede pole gripping and floor work abilities. Please remove all jewelry (rings, bracelets and watches) before class as it could pinch you and damage the pole.
5. What should I bring to class?
Always come hydrated and bring water!
6. Can I arrive early for my scheduled class?
If it is your first class, we ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your class start time to fill out a waiver and a student info sheet. We start all classes at their scheduled time, so please try your best to be on time.
7. Where can I practice after I take a class?
We offer Open Studio time for just $15 a session; you can also rent Private Studio time at $30/hour during times when we do not otherwise have classes, private lessons or open studio scheduled.
8. What are the class sizes?
Our max class size for all aerial classes is 8 people. If a class only has 1 or 2 students, we will cut class time down from 90 minutes to 60 minutes since each person will get much more time on the apparatus and individual attention from the teacher. Class time is spent both trying out the moves yourself and watching others to observe form and technique.
9. How much time in advance do I need to sign up for a class?
It is best to register as far in advance as possible, to ensure that you have the spot you want. Some of our classes get booked up weeks in advance. Please email us at skycandyaustin@gmail.com or see our Payments page to pay in advance for a spot in a class.
10. How do I register and pay for a class?
To sign up for a spot in a class, please email us at skycandyaustin@gmail.com. You can pay in advance online via Paypal or in person when you come to class with cash or check.
11. What is your refund policy?
Once you register and take a spot you are not eligible to receive a refund. If you can’t make your registered class you may reschedule 1 time only. You may reschedule a class up to 24 hours before your original scheduled time, however there is no class credit given if you do not show up. Class Cards are non-refundable, but they are transferable.
12. Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes! Please email us or call us and we can fix you up. Once we receive your payment a gift certificate will be available for pick up or mailed to the address of your choice. Be sure to include the name of the recipient and if it is for a specific event.
