6-Week Series
Our 6-Week Series classes are designed to teach a comprehensive curriculum of a single aerial apparatus. Beginners start with Level 1 where we teach basic skills and tricks, as well as conditioning exercises to help build strength, stamina and flexibility. Students may join Level 2 by teacher invitation. Not sure where you belong? Just ask! We’ll gladly help you figure out the best class for your skill level.
The first two classes of each 6-week series are drop-in friendly, so if you want to test the waters before diving in, you’ll have the chance to. Starting in the third week of each series class, we no longer allow new students to join. But, never fear! We’ve got weekly drop-in classes available for students at all skills levels.
Corde Lisse/Rope 1
Learn one of the purest of aerial arts. Class will focus on beginner to intermediate locks, transitions, balances and drops. There will be a concentration on act development exercises that will be geared towards a student showcase at the end of the series.
Corde Lisse/Rope 2
Learn one of the purest of aerial arts. Class will focus on intermediate to advanced locks, transitions, balances and drops. There will be a concentration on act development exercises that will be geared towards a student showcase at the end of the series.
Hammock 1
Beginner Hammock uses a version of the traditional “Silks” apparatus that is looped to create a go-to resting point that allows for ample lyrical movement. We will focus on basic strength-building, flexibility, and simple poses that will help create a personal style of aerial dance for each student! There will be a concentration on injury prevention and flexibility as well as act development exercises that will be geared towards a student showcase at the end of the series.
Hand Balancing 1
Learn the fundamentals of balancing on your hands! In this six week series, Sky Candy’s newest teacher, Kelsey Strauch will combine handstand training with partner acrobatics for one and a half hours of circus awesomeness. Each class will begin with a warmup focused on shoulder stretching for injury prevention, continue with lots of time in a variety of handstands, and conclude with partner balancing skills ranging from airplane to standing on shoulders. Come to class ready to work hard and have fun!
Lyra 1
Learn the seamless charm of the “hoop.” Students will begin to tackle inversions, mounts, dismounts and build their tolerance for spinning as well as general strength. This class emphasizes conditioning, strength and flexibility that will be geared towards a student showcase at the end of the series.
Lyra 2
Increase your knowledge of the “hoop” and you will tackle more advanced and exciting combinations, moves and spins. You will increase your strength and flexibility by repetition. Different types of lyras are used in this class (single point, double point, other variations) and we are tackling doubles. Did we mention choreography? There will be a student showcase at the end of the series. Invitation by instructor.
Pole 1
In partnership with Brass Ovaries, Sky Candy presents you… Pole with Brynn Route! We are offering both beginner and intermediate level pole classes.
In the pole one series we will focus on the fundamental aspects of pole, including the grips, spins, and techniques for stretching and conditioning which make up the foundations of pole dancing. Students will learn choreographed routines comprised of basic elements, which we will perfect over the course of the session. There will be a concentration on injury prevention and flexibility as well as act development exercises that will be geared towards a student showcase at the end of the series.
Pole dancing requires exposed skin to stick to the pole. Shorts, tank tops and sports bra work best. Acceptable footwear includes ballet shoes, athletic shoes or bare feet. Do not wear or apply lotions or oils before attending a pole class, as it will impede pole gripping and floor work abilities. Please remove all jewelry (rings, bracelets and watches) before class as it could pinch you and damage the pole.
Pole 2
In Pole 2, students will continue learning pole transitions and body strengthening moves by applying the skills they learned in Pole 1. In this class the choreography becomes longer and more involved and the strength training is ramped up to meet your stronger bodies. Each class will include instruction on how to polish your transitions and pole combinations. In the pole two series we will utilize the techniques learned in pole one and expand our skill set with additional tricks and combinations. Students will learn how to incorporate their repertoire into an intermediate routine, which they are invited to showcase at the end of the 6-week session. Invitation by instructor.
Silks 1
Learn this popular and graceful art form popularized by many “Vegas” style shows. Build your core and upper body strength as you learn to climb, invert, and create your apparatus. There will be a concentration on injury prevention and flexibility as well as act development exercises that will be geared towards a student showcase at the end of the series.
Silks 2
Building on the basics of silks, students gain stamina and strength via more complicated sequences, climbs, balances & drops. Students begin their own personal research into the art form by means of improvisation and choreography.
There will be a concentration on injury prevention and flexibility as well as act development exercises that will be geared towards a student showcase at the end of the series. Invitation by instructor.
Trapeze 1
This is an open series for people who have little or no aerial experience to people who have begun to develop skill level and would like to polish tricks and further their knowledge in Trapeze. Trapeze is also an innovative way to stay fit, we will work on strength building while beginning to form an understanding of how to move on this specific apparatus. There will be a concentration on injury prevention and flexibility as well as act development exercises that will be geared towards a student showcase at the end of the series.
What to Bring
We recommend that all students arrive to class prepared for working on an aerial apparatus. This means, please wear proper attire (we recommend a leotard underneath fitted workout clothes, such as yoga pants and a tee-shirt), arrive hydrated and bring water.
