Winnie

,

winnie-silks

Having started aerial arts in with zero background in dance or gymnastics, Winnie understands the difficulty of being a true beginner. After a frustrating seven weeks of being unable to climb a silk, Winnie approached the apparatus and found herself able to ascend! The magic of that moment has never left her.

From her humble beginnings, Winnie has had the opportunity to train with amazing instructors from around the country, including Elsie Smith, Adam Woolley, Destiny Vinley, Jamie Hodgson and others to hone her own skills and her skill in teaching others. She has completed the Intro to Teaching Aerials, Foundation Level Fabric & Trapeze, and Intermediate 1 Level Fabric & Trapeze teacher training courses with the New England Center for Circus Arts. To round out her training, Winnie plans to take the University of Texas’ Personal Trainer Certification Program in summer 2015.

She started performing in Austin venues in late 2009 and has done private and public performances at venues including the Austin Music Hall, ACL Live Theatre at the W, Brazos Hall, The Omni Hotel, The VORTEX, The East Austin Studio Tour and more.  She has been involved in every Sky Candy theatrical production to date, including The Red Shoes, The Time Machine, The Flame, Land Without Evil, and Cosmicomics.  In June 2013, she made her directorial debut with The Circus, an original show written by Danny Strack and performed at the historic Scottish Rite Theatre. In November 2014, she and the cast of Cosmicomics earned recognition for Outstanding Dance Choreography from the B. Iden Payne Awards Council.

The experience of creativity, discovery and awareness that Winnie has found in the aerial arts has been unparalleled in her life and is unendingly grateful for finding this art form. In July 2010, she, Andy Agne and Chelsea Laumen started Sky Candy, an aerial arts collective whose goal it is to develop and foster an interest in the aerial arts to the greater Austin community. She enjoys sharing her skills with new and experienced aerial students alike and puts a strong emphasis on form and technique for injury prevention. She teaches group and private lessons with Sky Candy and specializes in hammock, silks and aerial conditioning.

Winnie wants you to know that if she can get fly – you can too!
